1. Sandia Peak

Albuquerque is surrounded by the beautiful Sandia Mountains, so it is no surprise that Sandia Peak is at the top of my list. There are 3 ways to get to the peak; hiking, driving, or riding the tram. With 2 small kids, hiking to the peak was not on our itinerary. However, we drove and rode the tram. Riding the tram to the top of the peak has been a highlight of our time in Albuquerque. The sights are breathtaking and the kids absolutely loved it. On our first trip up we took a hike once at the top. The temperature is almost 20 degrees cooler at the top, so it is perfect in the summer months. On our second tram ride up we decided to eat at Ten 3. This restaurant and bar is located on top of the mountain and has an amazing view.

2. ABQ Biopark

The ABQ Biopark is the perfect way to spend the day with the family. It includes a zoo, aquarium, botanic garden, and Tingly Beach. The boys loved the zoo and aquarium. Some of our favorite animals were lions, polar bears, penguins, and elephants. At the botanic garden we got plenty of walking in and enjoyed the open space for the boys to run and play. We have not made a visit to Tingly Beach, but it might be in our future!

3. Old Town

Old Town is one of my favorite parts of Albuquerque. There are so many small shops, I could go back several more times and find something new. From Native American jewelry to imports from Mexico, there are so many goodies to be found. We also enjoyed the ice cream shops on occasion. Old Town is also full of history including the oldest church in Albuquerque. There are many restaurants near by, which makes Old Town the perfect day trip.

4. Petroglyphs National Monument

If you are interested in history, Petroglyphs National Monument is a must see. This is one of the largest displays of petroglyphs in North America. There are several trails at a variety of ability levels to view the ancient drawings. The drawings were made on volcanic rock and hold cultural and spiritual significance for the Pueblo Native Americans.

5. New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science

This museum is great for all ages. My boys absolutely loved the dinosaurs! They have alternating exhibits and we got to see the history of chocolate. It is also home to a planetarium and theatre. Make sure you check showtimes to plan your trip!

6. Breaking Bad Store and Sights

If you are a fan of Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad store in Old Town is a great stop! They have a free museum with props and costumes from the show. They also offer a tour of the sights in an RV like the one featured in Breaking Bad. This books up far in advance. You can also google filming locations from the show and find them yourself!
